With the onset of cooler, shorter, and darker days, the signs of Autumn have reached the Washington, DC area.

A Break from the Rain

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Yesterday was the first real break from weeks of rain, wet, and cold weather since the middle of September in the Washington DC area. So, naturally, I had to head out and do a bit of cycling. At first, I wanted to ride the loop around the Antietam Battlefield National Park, but having stayed up late the night before and over sleeping a bit, my plans needed a bit of an adjustment. Venturing a bit closer to home, I discovered a new trail at Indian Head, MD, the Indian Head Rail Trail, which was completed in November 2009.

The trail begins in Indian Head, MD at Mattingly Ave. and continues eastward towards White Plains, MD, ending at Theodore Green Blvd. The total round-trip distance is 26 miles, along mostly flat paved surfaces. The trail runs through about half of Charles County, MD. It’s the result of a gift through the National Parks Service’s Federal Lands to Parks Program.
